University Services and Resources

University Medical Centre: All students, upon first admission to the University, during the orientation week, are required to register at the University Clinic. The purpose of this registration is to ensure that no student is deprived of urgent medical attention when so required. During the registration, students are expected to bring along two passport photographs, their chest X-ray films and completed medical forms.

Each student is issued a University Clinic registration card with his/her number and photograph on it.  The University Clinic has been equipped with qualified medical personnel and all appropriate medical paraphernalia to cater for students' needs. When a student has a serious medical problem, the clinic will refer the student to appropriate hospital. Students with chronic health problems, such as Asthma, Diabetes, Epilepsy, Heart Disease or other potentially serious conditions, are required to establish and maintain a regular patient relationship with the University Clinic.

The Clinic may issue “Excuse from Lecture” document when a student is found temporarily unfit to attend lectures on grounds of illness or injury. Such document must reach the Directorate of Student Welfare and Counselling Service not later than 8.00a.m. of the succeeding school day.

 

Digital Media Laboratories: The Digital Media Laboratories (Radio, T.V., Film) provide a high quality and learning environment in which students use state-of-the-art Yamaha 02R 40 Channel Digital Mixing Consoles, 24 Channel Computer Based Audio Post-Production System, Sony Vegas Video 6.0 and Adobe Premier Pro Digital Video Editing System, Adobe After Effects and Autodesk Combustion 3.0 for Video Post Production, Macromedia Freehand, Flash and Maya for 2D and 3D Graphic Production. In addition to these facilities, there is a digital video production resource including Canon XM and XL Mim DV Cameras tripods, microphones, lighting kits and portable minidisc audio recording unit. All Computers are equipped with CD Writers.

Lead City FM Radio:     Which transmits from Lead City FM in the Jericho campus of the University which also house the university school of communicative studies, is the universities contribution to media education and entertainment in Ibadan and environs. It aims redefine social-science life in the ancient city of Ibadan.

With a rich blend of youthful enthusiasm and media experience at the helm of affairs, it offers the best mix of music round the clock interlaced with interactive talk shows.

 

Program content is centered around the strategic age group of 16 – 45 years old, and will give huge consideration to the major institutions of higher learning in the city. This new initiative, which is an offspring of the strategic planning of Lead City University, is aimed at reorientating the city of Ibadan in a way never seen before and has set a target to rival even the best radio stations in the leading commercial city at Lagos.

The mix of a modern entertainment through mass media against the ancient and conservative background of the city makes this initiative an exciting project both for the university community and the city as a whole.

Postal/Communication Services: Students' letters and correspondences shall be distributed to them promptly in their Faculties as deemed appropriate. Students can also pick their mails from the Mailing Unit. Facilities for fax, telephone and E-mail services are provided for use of staff and students.

Safety and Security: The Security department issues parking permits and enforces traffic regulations, which are to be obeyed by all and sundry. All thefts, vandalism or accidents should be reported to the security office immediately. Students are advised to be in possession of ID cards at all times for identification upon request by security personnel. Students, who have no current driving license are not permitted to drive within and around the university premises. Safety and Security
Sporting Facilities

Sporting Facilities: LCU maintains a well-rounded programme of sporting and athletic activities, for which facilities are available on campus or within the municipality. These include Athletics (Track and Field), Basketball, Handball, Tennis, Soccer, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Swimming, Polo and Golf.

Competition among Faculties for the possession of Championship cups, especially in Soccer and Athletics will be encouraged. There is also the opportunity of being awarded sports scholarships, which is part of the inducement the LCU Sports Council created to boost students' morale in appreciation of good sporting performance.

Catering and Shopping Facilities: The University makes arrangement for independent caterer to be located in conducive environment for students to buy food, snacks, drinks etc either on pre-paid or pay as you eat basis.

The University also supervises the activities of the caterers to ensure that good food producing balanced diets are served.

University Cybercafe

University Cybercafe: The University Cybercafe is open to staff and students of the university at appropriate times. All bonafide students of the university have a number of hours per semester during which they are allowed to surf the web, access materials and data for academic and recreational purposes.

Students can also catch up with missed lectures by logging into specific site to update themselves. This facility is also open to members of the Parents' Forum.

Library Services
A.      Opening Hours: The Library's opening hours vary according to the following schedules
            i)          Semester Period:
                        Monday - Friday: 9.00 a.m.  -  6 p.m.
                        Saturday: 9.00a.m. - 2p.m.
            ii)         Holidays (Public and University): Closed

B.      Membership:  The use of the Library is normally permitted to registered users only. Registration as a Library user is open to all persons in the following categories:
i)          Full and Part-time members of the University teaching and research staff, senior members of the university administration.
ii)         Registered Research Students
iii)         Members of the University Council
iv)        Registered full and part-time undergraduate students of the University
v)         Graduate Students of the University
vi)        Members of Parents' Forum
C.      Main Services Rendered: The following main services are offered:
a)         Loan transactions including inter-library loans (restricted for now)
b)         Reference services  general and subject;
c)         Readers' advisory services
d)         Services to researches;
e)         Binding of students projects;
f)          Exhibitions;
g)         Current awareness services;
h)         Photocopying services

D.      Library Rules and Regulations
i)          No book may be removed from the library without the issue being recorded in the manner prescribed by the University Librarian. The janitor in charge of the exit is authorised to examine books to be taken out of the library and readers must present such items for inspection.
ii)         The University Librarian may restrict or prohibit the borrowing of any book or periodical.
iii)         Library users in categories 2, 1 iii and v may borrow up to two books; while those in categories 2, iv and vi may borrow one book each from the open access collection on condition laid down by the University Librarian.
iv)        All books borrowed by Library users in categories 2, ii iii and v must be returned at the end of each semester, while library users in categories 3, iv and vi must return their books after a fortnight.
v)         Returned books may be renewed by the Library users provided such are not required by other users.
vi)        The University Librarian may recall a book issued to any Library user. In such cases, the book must be returned within three days of recall.
vii)        Books from the short-term loan or reserved book collection may not be reserved nor may the loans be renewed.
viii)       Materials of special nature such as tapes and irreplaceable works may be borrowed only with the permission of the University Librarian.
ix)        Library users are at all times responsible for any book, which has been issued in their name and this responsibility ends only when the book have been returned to the Library and the issued records have been cancelled.

E.      Penalties for Various Offences
i)          Delinquent student borrowers who fail to pay their accumulated fines will be barred from writing their semester or degree examinations. If however, they sit for their examinations their results and certificates will be withheld until the fines are paid.
ii)         Delinquent student borrowers who refuse to return library books and pay the fines will not sit for their examinations. If they sit for their examinations, their results and certificates will be withheld until they pay for books and clear their fines. The cost of each of such books will be five times the unit cost.
iii)         Library users who mark, deface, damage or mutilate library books will pay for such books, the amount involved being five times the unit cost of each book.
iv)        Those who pilfer any library book will be summarily dismissed from the University.
v)         Allegedly lost books will be paid for. The cost of each of such books will be five times the unit cost.

F.      General
i)          All cases of loss of borrower's cards must be promptly reported at the circulation desk.
ii)         If the book you require is on loan, you should please fill out a reservation slip for it at the Circulation Desk.
iii)         The use of any material obtained through interlibrary loan services is governed at all times by the regulations of the lending library.
iv)        Photocopying services are offered in terms of the Royal Society's 'Fair Copying' declaration, in accordance with the scale of changes currently in force.
v)         Smoking, eating and drinking are not allowed in the library.
vi)        Children and pets are prohibited from coming into the library
vii)        The library will not assume responsibility for any loss of personal items
viii)       Umbrellas, handbags and personal copies of newspapers and magazines should not be taken into the library.

9.       Learning Opportunities for Parents and Guardians: Parents and Guardians have the opportunity of auditing any course or topic of their choice in any faculty of the University. They can also use the Library, sporting and other facilities. Permits for such are readily available in the Registrar's office and Parents' Forum Liaison Office.

10.     Policy on Residency: The University operates on non-residency status. However, there are private accommodation facilities on-campus and in the vicinity of the university, which are run by other organisations and private individuals and accredited by the university authority. The I.D. Cards issued for such purpose must be worn at all times.
Students who are interested in the university assisted accommodation should contact the Students' Welfare and Counselling Services unit of the university.

It is expected that students in such accommodation should abide with the rules and regulations of the Hostel authorities. The on campus  hostels are very comfortable with 2 or 3 students in a room. All rooms are ensuite.
