Prof. Olufemi Onabajo who hails from Isonyin, Ogun State was born 61 years ago in Agege, Lagos State. He had his primary school education at Emmanuel School Isonyin between 1956 and 1961 and his secondary education at Molusi College Ijebu-Igbo and African Church Grammar School Ibadan between 1963 and 1967.
Prof. Olufemi Onabajo attended University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife between 1973 and 1977 for his first degree. He got His Masters and Ph.D. degree in Mass Communication and Education at the University of Lagos in 1981 and 1995 respectively. Prof. Onabajo has been News Editor, Controller of News and Manager, News and Current Affairs in Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation, Nigerian Television Authority and Africa Independent Television between 1979 and 1998. He was a recipient of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Currents Affairs presenter of the year award in 1990.
He was also Director, Corporate Affairs and Group Head Business Development and Advertising at Eleganza Industries and Promoserve Advertising Ltd. in Lagos between 1992 and 1996. He has traversed the length and breath of virtually all modes of marketing communications as a practitioner. He joined the University of Lagos as Lecturer 1 in the Department of Mass Communication in 1998 and became Senior Lecturer in 2004. He was appointed Professor of Mass Communication and Media Technology at the Lead City University in January 2009. A prolific writer, Professor Onabajo has 18 textbooks and 59 academic publications in highly reputed Local and International scholarly journals. His academic books include: Essentials of Broadcast Writing and Production, Community Relations in Action, Educational Broadcasting, Emergence, Growth and Development of Films and Home Video in Nigeria, Principles and Practice of International Advertising and Foundations of Communication Research, among others.
His research and scholarly works are in the area of Broadcasting, film, Media and Community Relations, Public Relations and Advertising. He is currently external examiner to the Department of Mass Communication of many Universities including Babcock University, Lagos State University and Covenant University for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes. He has attended local and international conferences on different occasions. Professor Onabajo is also a Reverend gentleman who was ordained an Anglican Priest in year 2000. He is married with children.
