1 What is the Intensive PGDE (iPGDE) programme?
The Intensive PGDE (iPGDE) is a fast-track postgraduate diploma in education offered by Lead City University, Ibadan. It is designed for experienced professionals and teachers who do not yet possess a formal teaching qualification but require one to teach legally in Nigeria.
2 How long does the programme last?
The iPGDE runs for 6 months in an intensive modular format designed to allow participants complete the required training within a short period.
3 What qualification will I receive after completing the programme?
Successful participants will be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from Lead City University.
4 Does the programme qualify me to teach legally in Nigeria?
Yes. The PGDE qualification makes you eligible to register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) which is the legal requirement for professional teaching in Nigeria.
5 Will I automatically receive my TRCN licence after completing the programme?
No. After completing the programme, you become eligible to register for the TRCN professional examination. The examination schedule, induction, and licensing are determined by TRCN.
6 Does Lead City University assist with TRCN registration?
Yes. The University will facilitate the TRCN registration opportunity for eligible candidates after successful completion of the programme.
7 What is the delivery mode for the programme?
The programme uses a blended learning approach, combining online learning with physical lectures, seminars, and supervised teaching practice.
8 What are the main areas covered in the programme?
The curriculum covers foundations of education, educational psychology, curriculum and teaching methods, assessment and evaluation, classroom management, inclusive education, digital pedagogy, and supervised teaching practice.
9 Who is the programme designed for?
The programme is designed for graduates without teaching qualifications, experienced teachers without PGDE, professionals transitioning into education, and individuals seeking to meet TRCN certification requirements.
10 Can HND holders apply for the programme?
Yes. HND holders interested in teaching and education-related careers may apply, provided they meet other admission requirements.
11 I just completed my BA Ed English last year. Can I enrol in the iPGDE?
Simply put, No. The iPGDE is designed for experienced teachers who do not yet have a teaching licence. 12 I have been teaching for many years but do not have an education qualification. Can I apply?
Yes. This programme is specifically designed for experienced teachers who need a recognised teaching qualification and TRCN eligibility.
13 Can professionals outside the education sector apply?
Yes. Professionals who wish to transition into teaching or education-related careers may apply.
14 What is the tuition fee for the programme?
The tuition fee for the programme is ₦500,000.
15 Is there a concession for Lead City University staff?
Yes. Lead City University staff are eligible for a concessionary fee of ₦250,000, which may be paid in approved instalments to support staff professional development.
16 When does the 1st cohort of the programme commence?
The 1st cohort programme is scheduled to commence in March 2026.
17 When do lectures begin?
Lectures are expected to begin March 30th, 2026.
18 When does application open?

19 How do I apply for the programme?

20 Is teaching practice included in the programme?
Yes. Participants will undertake supervised teaching practice as part of the programme to ensure practical teaching competence.

22 Does the programme cover inclusive education?

29 Is there a limit to the number of participants?
Yes. Admission slots are limited, and early application is advised.
30 Why should I choose Lead City University for this programme?

31 Can I run the programme entirely online, without coming to Lead City University?
