The Dean

Dr Foluke Oluyemisi Abimbola

Ph.D, LL.B (Hon), LL.M

Dr Foluke Oluyemisi Abimbola (Nee Desalu) is a 1992 graduate of the University of Ibadan where she obtained her first degree in Law (LL.B Hons) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in December 1993. She also holds a Master’s degree (LL.M) from the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan. She obtained her PhD in Law from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa. Her areas of specialty are International Human Rights Law, International Environmental Law and Comparative Family Law. Dr Abimbola started her legal career when she served as a pupil state counsel in the Ministry of Justice, Oyo state in 1994. Thereafter she worked in Lagos in the Law Firm of G.O.K Ajayi SAN & Co from 1995 till 1997, after which she returned to Ibadan in 1997 when she co-founded the Law Firm of Prime Solicitors. She presently serves as the Managing Partner of the firm specializing in Environmental law, Family Law, Human Rights, Corporate and Commercial Practice. Presently, she lectures in the Faculty of Law, Lead City University and occupies the position of the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law, Lead City University, Ibadan, Nigeria.

Dr Abimbola has a passion for human rights advocacy and has been actively involved as a member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Oyo state branch where she served on the executive committee of FIDA Oyo state branch as Assistant General Secretary (2001-2003), General Secretary (2003 – 2005), and Chairperson (2008 – 2010). She was also the Editor –in – Chief of the maiden publication of FIDA Oyo state journal, Vol.1, No. 1, October 2010. She has, through this organization, over the years represented several women and children in defending various human right abuse cases of torture, forced marriages, discrimination, rape, harmful widowhood practices, HIV/AIDS stigmatization cases before various courts and administrative tribunals. She has also organized and participated in advocacy visits to several agencies and communities to sensitize people about their rights and remedies for abuse. She is also a member of Zonta International Club, Ibadan which is an international organization supporting and empowering women and children as well as contributing to their welfare and poverty eradication. Apart from her passion for human rights advocacy, Dr Abimbola is passionate about writing and research. Presently, she is the Editor-in-Chief of the Faculty of Law, Lead City University Journal volume 4 Issues 1 and 2 and a member of the Ethics Committee, Lead City University, Ibadan.

Dr Abimbola has received many awards including Most hardworking Lecturer award presented by Law students Association, Lead City University, 2006; award in recognition of support to the Law Students Society, University of Ibadan during the “Gentlemen-in-skirts” programme, 2011; award of Excellence as Speaker at ‘The Outstanding Woman’ Symposium, Alexander Brown Hall, UCH, Ibadan, 2015; award of Excellence in recognition of contributions to the protection and welfare of women and children as Chairperson of International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Oyo state branch, 2017 and Woman of Excellence in Industry (Law & ADR) award by the ADR Society, Nigeria, 2017.

Dr Abimbola has participated at various international conferences across the world as a resource person particularly on issues of human rights law, specifically with respect to women’s rights, children’s rights and environmental justice. Dr Abimbola is also the immediate past Legal Adviser of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Oyo state branch a position she occupied for over ten years and she is currently the treasurer of the same organization. In furtherance of her passion for women and children’s rights, she is a member of the board of Mother and Girl-Child Protection Initiative, a Non-Governmental Organization in Ibadan, a member of the Board of Motherless Babies Home, Omolewa, Ibadan and a member of the Board of Directors, Alliance Francaise, Ibadan. She has also authored and published several papers in accredited journals. Dr Abimbola is a member of the Board of ministers of Rhema Chapel International Church, Bodija, Ibadan, Coordinator of the Ministers wives and Female Ministers Fellowship, Ibadan Zone II Bodija, and she is happily married to Oluseun Abimbola, SAN and their marriage is blessed with three children.

History and About

The Faculty of Law of Lead City University, Ibadan was approved by the National Universities Commission and the Council for Legal Education.  The Faculty of Law is sited on approximately 4-acre plot within the University compound.  The Faculty Building and Lecture theatre is one of the best in Nigeria. There are seasoned lecturers including fulltime Professors, Ph.D holders and other vibrant Lecturers.

The Faculty has a well-equipped Law Library, a moot court, staff offices, Lecture, staff common room, student common room and Tutorial rooms.  In addition, the Faculty has as part of its facilities a Faculty Boardroom, Seminar rooms, a cyber café, restaurant, snacks room and large parking spaces capable of accommodating at least 200 cars. 

The Faculty of Law provides quality legal education for the students and has the capacity to impart deeply rooted legal training that is required for aspirants to the honourable and noble legal profession in accordance with the Council for Legal Education (CLE) requirements.  

The Faculty also maintains internal quality control mechanism put in place to maintain and ensure standardization.

The National University Commission (N.U.C.) by its letter Ref. NUC/DESO/P17/VOL 1/3/ dated 3rd November,2014, gave the approval to the Faculty of Law to run the Law degree (L.L.B.) programme, effective from 2014/2015 academic session. 

The Council of Legal Education approved this faculty of Law as one of the Law Faculties in Nigeria whose Law graduates would be admitted to the Nigerian Law School for Bar Final examinations. The Council’s approval is contained in its letter Ref.NLS/499/S.25/VOL.1 dated July, 20, 2016.
