About the Faculty

The LCU Faculty of Engineering had its first set of students in the 2019/2020 academic session after a successful resource inspection and approval by the National University Commission (NUC).  The founding academic departments include: Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, as well as Wood Products Engineering.

The Faculty is committed to the delivery of the highest quality engineering education based on a well-structured academic curriculum as well as systematic teaching and learning processes.  In addition, we are involved in innovative interdisciplinary engineering research efforts which are problem solving in design and beneficial to the society in implementation.  These are achieved through our state-of-the-art laboratory and workshop facilities. All these are targeted at providing our engineering students with in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to make productive impact in the development of the society.

Our Vision is to produce engineering graduate professionals that are second to none in Africa; who would be in very high demand in the industry by virtue of their well-developed engineering skills and professional/academic integrity.

 

Our Mission

At the Faculty of Engineering, our missions are to:

  • Offer high-quality engineering programs that prepare students professionally for contemporary challenges and that inculcate life-long intellectual capabilities
  • Conduct engineering researches that are by design responsive and applicable to current national and international challenges as well as beneficial to humanity in outcomes
  • Employ advanced techniques and tools for teaching and learning processes as well as well-equipped laboratories and workshops to facilitate effective and productive practical-oriented learning.
  • Facilitate exciting and fulfilling student experience through the promotion of student-focused academic engagements and industrial excursions
  • Develop state-of-the-art academic environment that attracts and retains the best academic staff members that are committed to the intellectual and professional development of our students
  • Engage in value-added activities that serve and address the needs of the engineering industry and profession, as well as advance the economic, environmental and social welfare of our nation.

The undergraduate programmes offered at various departments of the Faculty of Engineering include:

  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Wood Products Engineering

Admission Requirements

  • At least five (5) credits in SSCE/GCE/NECO including Mathematics, English Language, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Admissible score in UTME and post-UTME screening.
  • Admissible results in JUPEB/IJMB for ‘A’ Level candidates
  • OND and HND candidates with requisite qualification are also admissible through Direct Entry and Conversion options

Head, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Dr. Babatunde S. Emmanuel is the Head, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Lead City University, Ibadan, Nigeria. He is a registered Electrical Engineer and licensed by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He holds PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; MSc in Microprocessor and Control Engineering from the University of Ibadan, and BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi. His research areas of interest include systems automation, optimization and control with applications in renewable energy systems as well as biomedical measurement and instrumentation; and his works are well-published in these areas. He is a member of the International Biometric Society, the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and Nigerian Society of Engineers. Dr. Emmanuel is currently the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. .

Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering
Dr. Olumide A. Towoju is the Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Lead City University, Ibadan, Nigeria. He is a graduate of mechanical engineering of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Nigeria, where he emerged as the best graduating student of mechanical engineering department of his set. He bagged a M.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Ibadan, and has a Ph.D. also in mechanical engineering (thermo-fluids) from the University of Ibadan. He is a registered mechanical engineer with the council for the regulation of engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and a member of the Nigeria society of engineers. Dr. Towoju was the pioneer Coordinator of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Adeleke University, Ede, between 2015 and 2016. He has many publications in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings .

Acting Head, Department of Civil Engineering Engr Adebola Akolade is the acting Head, Department of Civil Engineering, Lead City University, Ibadan, Nigeria. He is an established academic and research scholar. He had his Bachelor and Master Degrees in Civil Engineering from the prestigious Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso and University of Ibadan, respectively. In the past one decade, he has taught hundreds of Students at undergraduate level in Civil Engineering, Construction Materials Engineering and Foundation Engineering. He has also handled many projects as a Consultant and has featured as facilitators for Continuing Engineering Training in a number of Consulting Engineering Firms and institutions. Engr. Akolade is an expert on Structural Performance and Construction materials, with over twenty-five (25) high quality publications in reputable journals and conference proceedings. He is a member of many national and international professional bodies. He is blessed with twins.

Our Laboratories and Workshop Facilities

The best practice in contemporary engineering education is to facilitate in-depth understanding of theoretical engineering concepts and principles, complemented with hands-on practical application experiments. In keeping with this best practice, the LCU Faculty of Engineering is committed to systematic teaching of engineering principles, methodologies and concepts and the deployment of advanced laboratory technologies for practical learning activities.

Our state-of-the-art laboratory and workshop facilities at the various department of the Faculty include:
