Programme overview
The Intensive Postgraduate Diploma in Education (iPGDE) at Lead City University, Ibadan is an intensive, professionally oriented programme designed to equip graduates without formal teaching qualifications with the foundational knowledge, pedagogical skills, professional ethics, and practical competencies required for effective teaching and educational leadership in Nigeria. The 6-month modular structure emphasises theory–practice integration, digital pedagogy, inclusive education, continuous assessment, and supervised teaching practice, in line with NUC benchmarks, TRCN professional standards, and the National Policy on Education.
Programme objectives
The objectives of the iPGDE programme are to:
- Provide graduates with sound philosophical, psychological, and sociological foundations of education.
- Develop learners’ competence in curriculum interpretation, lesson planning, and effective teaching methods.
- Equip participants with skills in educational measurement, evaluation, and continuous assessment practices.
- Enhance capacity for classroom management, inclusive education, and learner support services.
- Promote the effective use of educational technology and digital teaching tools.
- Instil professional ethics, reflective practice, and adherence to TRCN standards.
- Prepare participants for supervised teaching practice and lifelong professional development in education.
Programme Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the iPGDE programme, graduates will be able to:
- Explain educational issues and practices using appropriate philosophical, psychological, and sociological perspectives.
- Interpret and implement the Nigerian curriculum effectively at relevant levels of education.
- Design coherent lesson plans and apply suitable teaching methods for diverse learners.
- Construct, administer, and interpret valid and reliable educational assessments.
- Manage classrooms effectively while accommodating learners with diverse abilities and backgrounds.
- Integrate ICT and digital tools appropriately into teaching and learning processes.
- Provide basic guidance and counselling support to learners within ethical limits.
- Demonstrate professional conduct, reflective practice, and compliance with TRCN codes of ethics.
- Exhibit practical teaching competence through supervised teaching practice and portfolio development.
